IsDB Renewable Project: Solar Power to Transform Niger State, Says Honourable Suleiman Umar

            

The vision of LIGHT up Niger State under the administration of Farmer Governor Umaru Bago's New Niger Agenda, Honourable Commissioner of Power and Renewable Energy Suleiman Umar says the Niger State Solar Electrification Project is on track, with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) team working closely with his Ministry to finalize details of the $163 million project. Farmer Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago had earlier expressed optimism about the project, saying it will complement the state's agricultural investments, improve food production, and boost industrial activity. The project aims to generate 100 megawatts of solar power, covering 200 hectares of land, and provide alternative energy to communities, boosting agriculture and industrial growth.

The team is addressing key technical queries, including project scope, financing plan, procurement strategy, implementation arrangements, institutional capacity, and sustainability. The project also focuses on social development, emphasizing women and youth inclusion, and environmental safeguards. Niger State Government ministries, including Power & Renewable Energy, Finance, and Environment, are working hand in hand to ensure successful implementation of this great project for the overall benefit of Nigerlites.

Expected Benefits of the Solar Electrification Project

The Niger State Solar Electrification Project is expected to bring numerous benefits to local communities. Some of the expected benefits include:
