Commissioner Suleiman Umar Leads Stakeholders Into Compensation Process For Landmark IsDB Project In Makunkele

The IsDB Energy Grid Initiative under the Farmer Governor Umaru Bago administration will be situated in Makunkele District, Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State. The project is described as the biggest renewable energy project of its kind in Nigeria right now. The Federal Executive Council, FEC, has approved funding from the Islamic Development Bank, IsDB, while Niger State has also provided its counterpart funding. The renewable energy project will sit on 500 hectares of land and has the capacity to generate 100MW of power. Beyond power generation, the energy farm will also include a School, a Healthcare Center, and provisions to supply affordable clean energy to institutions, homes, and for agricultural mechanization, as well as other resources to support future development. For 15 years, the people of Ibeto lived in darkness. A power project that should have changed their lives was abandoned by the last administration. Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago refused to let that story continue. The abandoned project was part of NIPP — the National Integrated Power Project, the Federal Government’s flagship initiative to close Nigeria’s electricity gap, being driven by NDPHC. The moment the New Niger Agenda took off, the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, led by Honourable Suleiman Umar, revisited Ibeto and got to work.
