News Engineering, Mahashakti Partner to Light Up Niger State with 100MW Solar

The Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Hon. Suleiman Umar, has hailed the expression of interest by News Engineering and its technical partner, Mahashakti, in the Niger State 100MW Solar Energy Development Project, describing it as a major milestone for sustainable development in Niger State and Nigeria.

The delegation, led by the Managing Director of News Engineering, Lady Josephine Nwaeze, visited the Farmer Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, at the State Liaison Office in Abuja to showcase the company's capacity to deliver the 100-megawatt solar project.

Lady Nwaeze said the company was impressed by the State Government's strides in security partnerships and development, and expressed its desire to be part of the success story of the New Niger Agenda.

Presenting the company's credentials, the Business Development Manager, Eng. Henry Akoji, said Mahashakti brings decades of experience as News Engineering's technical partner.

He disclosed that News Engineering has executed over 1,000 electrical installation projects across Nigeria, covering transmission and distribution lines, statewide rural electrification, and procurement worth over a million dollars.

Eng. Akoji added that the company has delivered over 100 solar mini-grid projects and distributed about 5,000 solar home systems, with services spanning electricity generation, design and construction of substations, construction and upgrade of transmission lines, renewable energy solutions, project management and consultancy, rural electrification, training and capacity building.

Also speaking, a Director at Mahashakti Energy, Ashok Kansal, said the company specialises in loss reduction, a critical factor for sustainable power supply.

"In India, we have reduced more than 30 to 40% losses. We are working in three fields together. We are in solar, we are in evacuation, and we are in the distribution network and reduction of losses, which is the crux, so that the distribution network should be sustainable to take the energy for 24 hours", he said.

Responding, Governor Bago commended News Engineering and Mahashakti Energy for their presentations, assuring that the State Government will critically examine the projects executed by the company before taking a decision.

Hon. Umar noted that the interest shown by the investors is a clear vote of confidence in the leadership of Governor Bago and the direction Niger State is heading.

He added that with the right partnerships, capacity and commitment, the 100MW Solar Energy Project will unlock reliable power, create jobs, drive industrial growth and deliver lasting development for present and future generations of Nigerlites.
