Light Is Coming Back: Bida Communities Sing Praises as Work Begins

Hope has returned to Darachita, Bangaie, Low Cost, Kobo Area, FMC Quarters, Polytechnic Layout, and Cabs Layout. After days of darkness and tension over the planned Saturday 6th June protest that was shelved, residents are now smiling again. The reason is simple: work has started. Hon. Suleiman Umar, Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy of Niger State, has been working hourly, pushing day and night to make sure Barrack Feeders get attention. And he has delivered, even faster than expected.

The big turning point came when AEDC materials finally arrived in Bida. No long waiting, no excuses. The moment the poles, cables, and repair equipment landed, technicians moved straight to the affected points. From Darachita to Cabs Layout, teams have been cutting, replacing, and reconnecting under the supervision of community leaders and the Commissioner’s team. For many residents, seeing the engineers on site with materials in hand was proof that their voices were heard and their communities were not forgotten.

The people are full of appreciation. First, they thank Hon. Suleiman Umar for his personal commitment. He didn’t just make promises — he stayed on the phone with AEDC and had his team on ground. His meeting with Hon. D. Aliyu and the Hon. Member representing Bida North was followed through and he tracked every step until materials arrived. His assurance that “nothing will stop us from having light soon” is now turning into reality right before their eyes.

They also appreciate Mohammad Madami Etsu, Chairman of Niger State Internal Revenue, for his contributions behind the scenes. His support helped ease coordination between government and the electricity agency. And to AEDC, the communities say a big thank you for the special allocation of materials and labor sent specifically to Bida. That quick response is what has made this repair different from past delays.

Barrack Feeders communities are experiencing renewed hope. With government, community leaders and AEDC working in concert, repairs are progressing steadily. This outcome reflects what is possible when dialogue replaces destruction, and collaboration replaces confrontation — a clear step toward the reliable power envisioned under the New Niger Agenda.

Hon. Commissioner Suleiman Umar is also using this moment to speak to all communities across Niger State’s 25 LGAs. He urges everyone to organize themselves and report any electricity issues through proper channels — to their councillors, local government chairmen, and representatives from state to federal. Copy the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy on those reports so problems can be resolved diligently and AEDC can carry out their services with seriousness and effectiveness. Government will always listen, and there is no need for violence or negative actions. Dialogue and coordination get faster results for all of us.
