Solar Farm at Diko Strengthens Bago’s Economic Drive: Nigerlites Urged to Support the New Niger Agenda - Hon. Suleiman Umar

Hon. Suleiman Umar, Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, says the 500-hectare solar farm at Diko, Gurara LGA, adds new strength to Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s economic transformation agenda.

Hon. Suleiman Umar expressed delight at the Farmer Governor’s decisive action in handing over land to Abuja Steel Mills Ltd. “This is leadership in action,” he said. “Seeing Farmer Governor Umaru Bago personally encourage investors into Niger State, create jobs, and put our state on the national map is truly inspiring. He is making Niger State proud and turning the New Niger vision into reality.”

He noted that the solar farm and industrial park will reshape the state’s industrial landscape, expand opportunities, and position Niger State as a leading destination for sustainable investment. With the state government set to gazette 200,000 hectares from Diko to Tafa for industries, Hon. Suleiman Umar said the state is ready to leverage the AKK gas pipeline and vast land for industrial growth.

The Commissioner urged elders and youth across all 25 LGAs to work hand in hand to guide and secure opportunities in their areas. “These projects must be protected and properly managed at the grassroots for prosperous and sustainable development,” he stressed. “The Diko solar farm must generate the maximum economic push for our state, and that starts with all of us taking ownership.”

He commended Abuja Steel Mills Ltd for investing in Niger State and echoed commendations from federal ministers: Minister of Power Joseph Olasunkanmi, Minister of Steel Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, Minister of State for Industry John Owan Enoh and Africa Industry Group’s Raj Gupta, who praised Farmer Governor Bago’s industrial statesmanship and foresight.

“Embrace this achievement. Secure it. Own it. When government and people move together, Niger State wins, jobs are created and our future becomes brighter,” Hon. Suleiman Umar concluded.
