For decades, Niger State powered the whole nation. Our hydro stations gave light to every corner of Nigeria, while many of our own communities waited in darkness. That era is over. Under Farmer Governor Umaru Bago, Niger is now a true power state for its own people. And Honourable Suleiman Umar is the man turning that promise into poles, panels and power.

Sulaiman Umar's journey from Works and Infrastructural Development to Power was not by chance. Farmer Governor Bago placed him where infrastructure meets impact. Because a road may open a place, but only light can grow it. That is the spirit of the New Niger Agenda.

Under Hon. Suleiman Umar, the Ministry has become a hub for real partnerships. Not one project. A full pipeline.

Together with REA, the Ministry is taking power where it has been missing for years. Mini-grids and solar systems are reaching rural communities and agro-clusters. So the New Niger Agenda is felt beyond the cities.

The Ministry is also working with World Bank-backed programs to build bankable projects and stronger systems. The aim is simple: make Niger’s power sector ready for bigger investment.

Through ECOWAS energy platforms, Niger State is joining regional conversations on standards and collaboration. It gives our projects wider credibility and opens more doors.

The $160 million FEC approval for a 100MW solar plant is the clearest signal. It will bring stable, clean power to farms, markets, factories, schools, and health centers. It places Niger State on Nigeria’s solar map.

Hon. Suleiman Umar brings the eye of a builder from Works. He knows where growth is happening, and he is putting power there first. He also knows how to work with many partners at once, without losing direction. 

At the centre of this progress is Honourable Suleiman Umar. He is bringing IsDB for scale, REA for reach, World Bank for structure, and ECOWAS for regional alignment.  

Farmer Governor Bago set the vision for a New Niger. Hon. Suleiman Umar is providing the energy to deliver it.  

It is a clear shift: from building roads, to building power. From waiting for light, to producing it.  

This is the New Niger Agenda in motion. And it is already changing lives.
