Commissioner Suleiman Umar Leads Stakeholders Into Compensation Process For Landmark IsDB Project In Makunkele

The IsDB Energy Grid Initiative under the Farmer Governor Umaru Bago administration will be situated in Makunkele District, Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State. The project is described as the biggest renewable energy project of its kind in Nigeria right now.

The Federal Executive Council, FEC, has approved funding from the Islamic Development Bank, IsDB, while Niger State has also provided its counterpart funding. The renewable energy project will sit on 500 hectares of land and has the capacity to generate 100MW of power. Beyond power generation, the energy farm will also include a School, a Healthcare Center, and provisions to supply affordable clean energy to institutions, homes, and for agricultural mechanization, as well as other resources to support future development.

Implementation is now underway. The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, led by Honourable Suleiman Umar, is currently on the compensation phase. The Ministry, alongside the Ministry of Land, Consultants, District Heads, the Chairman of Bosso LGA, and other stakeholders, engaged the indigenes at the Bosso Local Government Secretariat yesterday to begin the compensation process. This marks the start of ground activities toward the successful delivery of the project.

The engagement covered indigenes from communities within the 500 hectares earmarked for the project in Makunkele, cutting across several villages, families, and households. Officials also set up a channel to address grey areas and community concerns to ensure fair resolution and smooth implementation.

Earlier, Niger State took a decisive step toward energy security when the Islamic Development Bank, IsDB, team visited Minna and held a strategic meeting with Farmer Governor Umaru Bago at Government House. The discussions centered on renewable energy as a key driver for sustainable development. The agenda was clear: it was not about a single intervention, but a comprehensive package of renewable energy projects designed to expand access to clean, reliable, and affordable power across urban and rural communities in the state.

The momentum was strengthened when the Federal Executive Council, FEC, approved funds for the renewable energy interventions in Niger State. In keeping with the terms of the partnership, Niger State also provided its counterpart funding promptly. This demonstrated the administration’s commitment to ensure that the projects moved from agreement to action.

With the compensation process now commenced at Bosso, farmer Governor Bago administration is translating that commitment into concrete action on the ground, positioning Niger State as a hub for clean energy and inclusive development.
